Customer Review: Disappointed
This was not what I expected. I like Midnight Magic and I thought this would be similar; but it wasn't. It had very little flavor and was not strong enough! I will not buy it again.
Customer Review: Rich, Strong & Flavorful
There is more coffee in these K-Cups than most of the others. We found one other and have been using our Keurig as our everyday coffee maker ever since. We were originally disappointed because we were used to a strong cup of coffee. I tried using less water with the other K-Cups but with these I can use the regular water amount and still have a great cup of coffee. If you like strong these are the K-Cups to buy along with Parisian Nights.

Keurig Van Houtte French Roast Coffee K-Cup, 5 Pack

The advantages of K-cups include an airtight seal and cup which locks out light, oxygen, and humidity (all of which adversely affect coffee flavor), a pure paper filter, as well as the ideal grind and measure for that variety of coffee or tea. In fact the patented Keurig K-cup is actually a highly engineered, technologically advanced mini-brewer. For more than eighty years, Van Houtte has been roasting fine coffees according to the traditional European method adopted by their founder, Albert-Louis Van Houtte. They carefully select the choicest beans from around the world and roast them in small batches. Blended and roasted in the European style to develop a rich, full-bodied coffee that is enjoyed at cafés around the world, the superb bittersweet nuances make this European French very special indeed.

There are actually quite a few different types of espresso makers, and which sort is best for you is well, totally up to you! Check out these different types of espresso makers:

Stovetop Espresso Maker A stovetop espresso maker is just about as simple as they can get, and the name is pretty much self-explanatory. A stovetop espresso maker is one that you use over the stove. This is, of course, a benefit since it does not require electricity. It can therefore be used easily by campers and the like. Of course, a stovetop espresso maker is not ideal for everyone, especially since it is usually of the one-cup variety, and it will not give you the foam layer top. But, a stovetop espresso maker does give its user one great shot of espresso at full concentration.

Piston Driven Espresso Maker This fine sort of espresso maker was invented in 1938 by Italian Achille Gaggia. A piston driven espresso maker forces water to flow over the coffee grounds at a very high pressure. This produces the foamy top that is so unique to espresso. Of course, the piston driven espresso maker is likely more often seen in an antique shop than a persons home, these days.

Pump Driven Espresso Maker A pump driven espresso maker is similar to the piston driven espresso maker, but it is more widely used today, especially in commercial settings. A pump driven espresso maker does not use manual force, but rather a motor-driven pump that heats the water as it filters through the coffee. Oftentimes, a pump driven espresso maker is hooked up directly to a buildings plumbing.

Semi Automatic Espresso Machine A semi automatic espresso machine delivers water by a pump, not manual force. The coffee grinding and other such steps are all still prepared manually.

Automatic Espresso Machine and Super-Automatic Espresso Machine Automatic espresso machines are, of course, becoming more and more popular. People like to have things as easy as possible, and on this list of espresso machines so far, this is the easiest to use. An automatic espresso machine does practically everything for you. It will produce essentially the same espresso shot every time. It will even grind the beans and dispose of the spent grounds. All you need to do is turn it on!

Once you have decided which sort of espresso maker is perfect for you, all you need to do is go and buy it! Then you can make your own, fresh espresso daily, rather than heading to the local coffee shop and paying them big bucks to make it for you.

If you are a caffeine junkie, then you most definitely need to have an espresso maker in your own home. Otherwise, you will continuing putting money down the drain, buying your espresso from Starbucks.

Of course, now that you have decided which espresso maker you want, you now need to decide which coffee beans to buy! This can be an even more difficult decision!

When it comes to buying a coffee maker, one that gets you through the morning, there are so many options that it may drive you crazy. Drifting away from Starbucks and the instant stuff, there are machines that can do the job fairly well. But they must pass through a set of criteria.

Simplicity

With coffee makers, as with most machines, simple is always better. You don't want too many switches and buttons and overcomplicated procedures. All you want is a cup of coffee. A simple machine, one designed and tested to do one simple thing, and be good at it, tends to work better than a complicated one.

Function

You want a coffee maker that does the job all the way through, nothing too much, and nothing left half done. Underachievers that don't extract enough flavor, and overachievers that boil the water too much that your coffee gets too bitter; you don't want them.

Type of Coffee

It pays to know what kind of coffee you love to have from your coffee maker. For most brews, drip coffee makers are all right. For espresso, a dedicated espresso machine is the only one that will do. If you want espresso, but don't want to buy a machine for it, a French press can actually do the trick. Percolators are also good, as they're tried and tested. The coffee you want tells you what kind of coffee maker you need.

Cup Size

See if the coffee maker makes a decent-sized serving at one go. Decent-sized is relative. If your morning wake up ritual needs two cups, then see that your coffee maker can deliver just that. Some coffee machines limit themselves to serving sizes that are precise, but are annoyingly less or more than what some need. Make sure what you buy neither serves too little nor overflows your cup and wastes all that coffee goodness.

Reservoir

A good coffee maker should hold enough water for a decent amount of servings at one time. Make sure it can hold a good amount without the reservoir being too big that it takes over the machine. Bad coffee makers tend to have big reservoirs, and cheap machine parts within, just so that they can pass as coffee makers. Do not fall for this. Scrutinize, and choose wisely.

Value

Everyone wants a bargain, but remember that there's such a thing as a balance between the price and the features. Measure the coffee maker's set of features along with its build and its price. This kind of formula is a good rule of thumb. So this means you'll need to check out the slightly costly items, and visit the reputable shops to get the best "balanced" value. It's not just money at stake here, it's your mornings.

Brand

It may not seem necessary, but buying a coffee maker from a reputable brand is much better than buying some run-in-the-mill counterpart (unless you've done a great deal of research behind some new or unknown brands). A branded machine can beat any brandless contraption anytime. That's another consumer rule of thumb there. More of a guide, not a rule. When it comes to build quality, features, and overall design, brands like Bunn, Black & Decker, Cuisinart, Braun, and so on are the best there is.

Easy-to-Clean

Of course, you have to deal with cleaning issues. You want to maintain your coffee maker's service life. Make sure that the crucial parts are washable so that you do not get coffee sticking to them over time. As long as you can wash the important parts like the pot and the reservoir with soap and water, you're good to go.

Portability

You don't want anything bigger than your counter. If you buy something that can sit snugly at the corner of your kitchen, then you'd want to use it day after day, since it doesn't "intrude" in your kitchen space.

Safety

Make sure that there are no exposed electric parts; that everything is properly insulated. Sometimes there are spills, and you don't want a shock when you clean up the spill. See if the handles are cool to the touch and children who fumble with them and won't get burned.

Coffee makers come in many shapes and sizes. Simplify your search of your best coffee maker by setting your criteria of what you want from your machine before you start looking for your perfect coffee maker.

Here in the West we are massive consumers of coffee. And many of us think nothing of spending four or five dollars at Starbucks for a gourmet espresso, latte or cappuccino.

What few of us think about as we sip our favorite brew is that coffee is grown by small farmers in developing countries. Most of these farmers are paid less for the coffee beans they grow that it costs for them to produce and pick them.

In other words, for every gourmet coffee you and I enjoy, the grower of the beans used is descending into a deeper and deeper cycle of poverty and desperation.

It was in recognition of this cycle that the certification process for fair trade coffee was introduced in 1998.

When you buy a pound of fair trade coffee, $1.26 goes directly back to the coffee growers who grew it.

It doesnt go directly into the hands of an individual grower, but to the cooperative to which he or she belongs. Part of the deal with fair trade coffee is that farmers are required to band together in cooperatives. The money then goes to the cooperative and is shared among all the farmers.

The issue of farmers having to join a cooperative to benefit from fair trade is a complex one, with advantages and disadvantages.

However, the big benefit is that when $1.26 goes to the cooperative, and then to the farmer...they are receiving about the double what they would get outside of the fair trade coffee system.

In other words, when you or I buy fair trade coffee, we are providing the grower with twice the income he or she would normally receive.

Over 100 million pounds of fair trade coffee have now been sold in the U.S. alone. Better still, the numbers are growing fast.

Starbucks now offers fair trade coffees and recently Wal-Mart announced that it would start offering fair trade coffee through its Sams Club outlets.

When Wal-Mart becomes a buyer, you can be sure that the impact on small coffee farmers in Central and South America, East Africa and the Far East will be substantial.

Yes, it will cost you a little more to buy fair trade coffee. But when you pay that little extra, youll be making a real difference to the lives of coffee farmers and their families and communities.

Gloria Jean's Coffees, K-Cup, Swiss Chocolate Almond for Keurig Brewers, 24-Count Boxes (Pack of 2)

Customer Review: Nothing special
Not much to say about this one. There are so many better flavors out there (see my other reviews). This one is not awful, but it is pretty weak and the chocolate flavor is more a scent than an actual flavor. I can drink what I have, but I won't bother ordering it again. It's actually better if you mix it with another, stronger, "plain" coffee.
Customer Review: Phyl's Shopping Adventure
I came into my office room, clicked a few keys on my computer, and my shopping was completed. Knowing me, I was barefooted and in my nightgown while shopping! I love shopping while still " undressed" and in my own home.

Could you ever resist the craving to have a second cup of that beautiful, strongly aromatic and lazily steaming cup of coffee? Perhaps no one can do it. A passionate Gourmets delight, freshly brewed, thick and dark brown and irresistible coffee just brightens up your day like no other drink or anything else can do.

Why Is Gourmet Coffee So Special

One might be tempted to ask why gourmet coffee is so special. Well, here is the answer. For starters, gourmet coffee is always made by high quality fresh Arabica coffee beans which are always hand picked unlike other commercial coffees which are mostly machine graded. Hand picking of coffee beans eliminate chances for dirt such as twigs, leaves etc to sneak in and spoil your coffee.

Secondly, gourmet coffee beans are specially treated with oils after roasting which enhances its flavor to no end. The oil used for coffee bean treatment is a blend of many natural oils which do not have their adverse effect on the shelf life or stability of the ground powder unlike synthetic oils. The oils are so mixed that their characteristic flavors neutralize each other.

You can have different tailor made roast for your gourmet coffee. Deep roasted beans some what loose their natural aroma and this is why you feel the roasted flavor when drinking it. Rather you would prefer a lighter roasting which retains its entire natural aroma.

Arabica coffee beans are ground to the exact perfection of fineness to get its best taste. But generally a finer grind results in a full-bodied cup of coffee, but as many would like it, coarser grinds are preferred to make coffee with coarse filters.

Finer grinds are preferred by those who like espresso but true lovers of gourmet coffee will almost invariably go with the coarse ground coffee powder as boiled water takes its own sweet time to pull out the flavor completely, especially in drip type filters.

Arabica coffee beans are never stored in warehouses as they are dispatched quickly after harvesting. It is the same story after roasting and grinding them, too. The beans from Arabica trees are, by nature, tastier than Robusta, another cheaper variety.

To its credit, Robusta coffee bean offers you higher caffeine content along with that characteristic acidic taste. Another little known fact is some marketers mix a small percentage of Robusta with gourmet coffee beans.

If you were to carry out a search on Google for "Why an espresso is good for you?" you would be amazed at the search results you would find. In nearly all articles you will see that they are saying the good news is that coffee is good for us after all.

So just what health benefits can I possibly expect from drinking a cup of hot brown espresso. However, what is important that any coffee you do drink must contain caffeine in order for it to work effectively.

The reason it seems that drinking espresso coffee may be beneficial to a person's health is because of the anti-oxidants that it contains and which many people are unaware of. It does not matter whether you are drinking either a straight espresso or a cappuccino they both contain the same amount of anti-oxidants within them. But what is important to remember that coffee is only really good for you if you drink it in moderation. But now let us take a closer look as to why espresso and other forms of coffee are beneficial to a person's health.

Well firstly you are less likely to suffer from diabetes. In fact in data analyzed by Harvard researchers they found that drinking between 5 to 6 cups of coffee each day could slash the chances of men suffering from Type 2 Diabetes by 54% and for women by 30%.

Also in another study carried out by the Scottish Heart Healthy group they looked at 11,000 men and women aged between 40 and 59. It was found that those who drink large quantities of coffee were more likely to lower the chance of them dying from heart disease.

Another reason drinking espresso is good for you is that in studies carried out with regard to Parkinson's disease. It was found that those men who drink between 4 and 5 cups of coffee each day cut the risk of developing this disease by nearly half compared to those men who drink little or no coffee at all.

Until I went looking on the Internet I never realized that drinking something so tasty could be good for my health. So many things that benefit my health long term are not all that much fun. It is refreshing to find something I really like will help me stay in better health. So as you can see there are many reasons as to why an espresso is good for you.
